Article Marketing Tips For 2009

Article Marketing can be a very handy SEO tool if utilized properly. A well written, well organized article will get your website traffic and popularity. Some of the benefits of having a wining article published include generating a quality back link from the resource box or “author box”, some article directories allow in-content links (link within the content). Content links are good because you can use whatever anchor text you want. Anchor text means linking your website to a specific keyword or phrase within your article.

A good article should have a great keyword rich title that is relevant to your content. When making a title try using a phrase that makes sense, grabs attention, and contains keyword. Just be creative and you will come up with something within a few minutes.

Also, your description should be creative and contain keywords as well. A title should not be too long or too short. Just about 20-25 words or so will do (basically 1-2 sentences).

Your article itself should be written well. Have a friend or family member proof read it and make sure everything makes sense. If you don’t have a proof reader, give yourself a 20-30 minute break after writing the article then proof read it yourself.

Your article should not be too long. Short and sweet will attract more readers. A 500 word article that is packed with valuable information is better than a 1500 word article filled with useless info.

Promote your article: This is one of the biggest challenges that everyone will face. Promote your article everywhere you possibly can. Use forums, link from your social networks, blog about your article, link to your article from your forum signatures, try to get others to link to your article, add a link to it from your websites, use social bookmarking sites like Digg, and submit your article to multiple article directories.

Tip: Do not forget to use the resource box. This is where you will add a link to your website and tell everyone about you or your company.

DoFollow Forums List

Using forums for SEO purposes can be a very good way to increase website ranking and to generate web site  traffic. Some people think that “Forum Posting” is a Blackhat SEO technique. If done properly and if done within the forums guidelines and rules, you will be within the Whitehat SEO realm and also add to your SEO efforts.

The most effective and SEO Friendly way to utilize a forum to increase you web sites SEO is to make good use of the forums signature feature. A forum signature shows up under every post you make in the forum. A signature can (in most cases) include 1-3 links to your website or sites. Adding a link in  your signature then posting is the most positive way to obtain backlinks from a forum. Simply making an account and posting a bunch of spam posts will get your account banned and will make you look like an idiot.

You can include links within some posts if it is on topic and does not violate the forums rules. I make posts sometime that are basically answere to Noobie questions, I simply add a link to an article or website that will answer their question. This is a widely acceptable way to add a link to an actual forum post. The safest way however is to use the signature feature.

To gain an SEO benefit from your forum links, the forum must be DOFOLLOW.

DOFOLLOW simply means that the links are followed by search engines like Google and will count as a valid back link to your website URL. Going out of your way to post links for SEO purposes within a NOFOLLOW forum is a waste of your time.

On-Site SEO & Off-Site SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) can be broken down into two broad categories - onsite seo and offsite SEO. Both of these SEO methods will benefit your overall rankings, so it may be worth your time to undertake them both when building and promoting your website.

On-site SEO includes the actions you take on your WebPages (Website) to increase your search engine position. A basic example of On-site SEO would be adding a title, keywords, description, and Relevant “Keyword Enriched” Content.

Off-site SEO techniques are the actions you take outside of your WebPages to increase your search engine position. Backlinks (See: Link Building) are one of the most important elements when practicing offsite SEO . For example, say you’ve developed a site on “Saving money”. If Google or another major search engine notices that a high authority website like Money.com has linked back to your site, it assumes your site must have good relevant content. The more of these quality links back to your site you get, the more traffic you will obtain from the search engines because your site will rank higher.

Both on-site and off-site optimization help the search engines catalog your site and rank it higher. On-site optimization is more under your control than off-site optimization. So you need to make certain every single page of your site is well optimized and then start a well planned link building campaign.

What is Link Baiting?

Link baiting is exactly what it sounds like: Create interesting or controversial blog posts or articles that get linked to often by other sites and blogs.  Link baiting is normally easier said than done, but once you master the art of link baiting you will discover that it is one of the best ways to build quality links. 

An example of link baiting would be if you wrote a blog post on a touchy subject and started a heated online argument on the subject, others will link to the blog post in an effort to share the battle with others. This type of link baiting works. 

Another good example would be to make a blog post or article that was a list of useful tips. Others will share these tips by posting your link on their site, blog, forums, and other places. Something like a list of free high page rank directories would possible generate some link bait action. It may take you some time to perfect the art of link baiting. It will be well worth the effort once you figure out the link baiting technique. It is a great way to acquire natural back links.
